During the work
The work carried out
Remove 40 mm of damaged surfacing
The existing surface was planed to a depth of 40 mm, removing the damaged layer and preparing the area for replacement asphalt. The photograph records the milled surface beside retained asphalt.
Sweep and power-spray the tack coat
After planing, the area was swept clean. Our power sprayers applied a bitumen bonding tack coat to help the replacement asphalt adhere to the prepared surface.
Supply, machine-lay and roll SMA
We supplied and machine laid 10 mm stone mastic asphalt, then rolled the new material. The 10 mm designation describes the nominal aggregate size of the SMA mix; the removal depth on this contract was 40 mm.
