Prepare a working car park for new tarmac
A car park resurfacing proposal needs to consider more than the parking bays. Entrances, circulation lanes, drainage covers, pedestrian routes and connections to retained surfacing all affect the preparation. We discuss which areas need planing and whether isolated failed sections also need base repair.
The Kilmarnock photograph shows the planing stage of a car park prepared for machine-laid tarmac. For your site, include opening hours and the areas that must remain accessible so we can discuss the work sequence, material deliveries and any phased closure. Markings and other finishing work are included only where agreed in the quotation.
Kilmarnock – Car Park Planing for Tarmac Resurfacing
Road planing at a car park in Kilmarnock prepared the existing asphalt for a machine-laid tarmac resurfacing scheme. The milling operation removed the agreed surface layer ahead of the new surfacing. This close-up photograph shows the planing machine working across the asphalt and the milled texture left behind.

The work carried out
- Plane the existing car park surface. The agreed car park area was planed in preparation for resurfacing. Controlled removal creates room for the replacement asphalt while allowing levels at adjoining surfaces to be considered.
- Prepare for machine-laid tarmac. The planing formed the preparation stage for machine-laid tarmac. For a similar car park, we assess entrances, parking circulation, drains, covers and pedestrian routes before setting out the resurfacing scope.
From asphalt removal to the replacement surface
Road planing, also called asphalt milling, removes an agreed depth of existing surfacing. Sweeping and cleaning follow the removal. Where resurfacing is included, the specified tack or bond coat, asphalt layers, laying method and compaction are agreed for the intended use. Any weak foundation or drainage issue needs its own assessment.
Our family-run business can quote for the full preparation and surfacing package. We have our own equipment and insulated trucks for our materials. Tell us if the work needs to fit around opening hours or a night shift so we can discuss access, materials and the available working window.

Road-planing questions
Can you quote for planing and the new tarmac together?
Yes. We can assess a combined preparation and resurfacing package. The written scope confirms the removal area, any base repairs, bonding, replacement asphalt and compaction, as well as the agreed access arrangements.
Is road planing the same as laying recycled road planings?
Road planing removes existing asphalt. Road planings are the reclaimed material, which can be supplied and compacted for a separately specified road, track or yard. Tell us whether you need asphalt removed, recycled material installed, or preparation followed by new hot asphalt.
