Our Dumbarton project

Dumbarton · HOT TAR & CHIP
Dumbarton – Recycled Asphalt Base & Two-Coat Surface Dressing
UK Roadworks Group transformed a large existing gravel area in Dumbarton into a defined, stone-finished approach. The old surface was scraped out and excavated, with all waste removed from site. Recycled asphalt planings were laid, power rolled and compacted to form the prepared base. We then machine applied two coats of hot polymer latex-modified bitumen with granite surface-dressing stone. The completed grey finish follows the curved approach towards the property, combining a reconstructed base with a bitumen-bonded aggregate surface.
Preparation, materials and finish
- Scraping out and excavation. The previous gravel surface was scraped out and excavated, with all waste removed from site.
- Recycled asphalt planings. Planings were laid, power rolled and compacted to prepare the base for surface dressing.
- Two-coat granite surface dressing. Two layers of hot polymer latex-modified bitumen and granite surface-dressing stone were machine applied.
Choosing a gravel-effect surface for your property
Hot tar and chip, also called surface dressing or bitumen-bonded aggregate, combines a bituminous binder with stone chippings. The aggregate colour gives the surface its appearance. We discuss the preferred finish alongside the existing base, levels, drainage and vehicles using your driveway or road.
Repairs, excavation, regulating or base reconstruction may be needed before the surface dressing itself. Tell us about soft areas, potholes, standing water and turning points. The work shown here is a project example; your quotation sets out the preparation and treatment agreed for your own site.
