Plan repairs around a working estate
A farm or estate road may serve the house, estate office, deliveries and agricultural traffic at different times of day. We discuss which damaged sections need replacing and where access needs to be maintained. Gate widths, passing places and space for material deliveries help determine the equipment and work sequence.
The near-Lochgilphead project repaired bad sections on the approach to the manor house and estate office. For another estate, we assess recurring potholes, edge damage, standing water and the supporting base before proposing local repairs or a wider resurfacing package. Cleaning the work area and dealing with removed material are set out in the agreed preparation scope.
Near Lochgilphead – Estate Road Planing & Resurfacing
On a private farm estate near Lochgilphead, we cleaned and prepared the working area and planed out failed sections of the estate road leading towards the manor house and estate office. UK Roadworks Group supplied, laid and rolled heavy-duty hot tarmac to replace the damaged sections, then bitumen sealed all asphalt joints.

The work carried out
- Clean the estate work area and remove failed sections. Cleaning and preparation accompanied the planing of bad sections along the estate road. The repair route served the manor house and estate office; the photograph shows removed asphalt being loaded into a tipper.
- Supply, lay and roll heavy-duty hot tarmac. We supplied the replacement hot tarmac, laid it in the prepared sections and rolled it to compact the new surface. The work addressed the agreed damaged parts of the access road.
- Bitumen seal all joints. All asphalt repair joints were sealed with bitumen as part of the completed package. Joint treatment helps protect the interfaces between replacement tarmac and adjoining surfacing.
From asphalt removal to the replacement surface
Road planing, also called asphalt milling, removes an agreed depth of existing surfacing. Sweeping and cleaning follow the removal. Where resurfacing is included, the specified tack or bond coat, asphalt layers, laying method and compaction are agreed for the intended use. Any weak foundation or drainage issue needs its own assessment.
Our family-run business can quote for the full preparation and surfacing package. We have our own equipment and insulated trucks for our materials. Tell us if the work needs to fit around opening hours or a night shift so we can discuss access, materials and the available working window.

Road-planing questions
Why seal the joints around estate-road repairs?
The joints are the interfaces between new and retained asphalt. Bitumen joint treatment forms part of the repair detail and helps protect these interfaces. It does not remove the need for sound preparation, suitable compaction and effective drainage.
Is road planing the same as laying recycled road planings?
Road planing removes existing asphalt. Road planings are the reclaimed material, which can be supplied and compacted for a separately specified road, track or yard. Tell us whether you need asphalt removed, recycled material installed, or preparation followed by new hot asphalt.
