Our Paisley project

Paisley · HOT TAR & CHIP
Paisley – Farm Steading & Cottage Access Surface Dressing
A bumpy dirt track serving a farm steading, cottages and a house in Paisley was rebuilt and finished in hot tar and chip. UK Roadworks Group excavated the route, laid road planings and power rolled and compacted the base. Two layers of polymer latex-modified bitumen and aggregate were then machine applied to produce the gravel-effect finish. The photograph shows the completed access curving between the buildings, with a consistent stone surface bringing the different parts of the property together.
Preparation, materials and finish
- Track excavation. The previous bumpy dirt track was excavated to prepare the access serving the steading, cottages and house.
- Road planings base. Road planings were laid, power rolled and compacted before the surface treatment.
- Machine-applied two-coat dressing. Two layers of polymer latex-modified bitumen with aggregate produced the finished hot tar and chip gravel effect.
Choosing a gravel-effect surface for your property
Hot tar and chip, also called surface dressing or bitumen-bonded aggregate, combines a bituminous binder with stone chippings. The aggregate colour gives the surface its appearance. We discuss the preferred finish alongside the existing base, levels, drainage and vehicles using your driveway or road.
Repairs, excavation, regulating or base reconstruction may be needed before the surface dressing itself. Tell us about soft areas, potholes, standing water and turning points. The work shown here is a project example; your quotation sets out the preparation and treatment agreed for your own site.
