When potholes need a larger repair area
Where several potholes join together or surrounding asphalt is breaking away, the repair may need to extend beyond each visible hole. We assess the adjoining pavement and underlying support to decide between local patches, a larger planed section and any necessary base repairs.
For Stirling commercial premises, tell us how deliveries, staff parking and pedestrian access use the affected area. Work can be divided into agreed sections where the site permits. The quotation identifies removal, cleaning, bonding and replacement surfacing, together with any additional preparation found necessary.
Stirling – Commercial Asphalt Planing & Pothole Repairs
This commercial repair project in Stirling addressed existing asphalt that was deteriorating and breaking into potholes. We removed the damaged asphalt using a road-planing unit, swept and cleaned the exposed area, and applied Colbond 50 bonding emulsion before relaying hot rolled asphalt. The repair replaced the failed surfacing within the agreed work area.

The work carried out
- Plane out the deteriorated asphalt. The road-planing unit removed the existing failed asphalt in the repair areas, including sections breaking into potholes. The conveyor photograph illustrates the removal and loading stage.
- Sweep, clean and bond. The planed surface was swept and cleaned before Colbond 50 was applied. This bonding emulsion provides adhesion between the prepared existing surface and the new asphalt layer.
- Relay hot rolled asphalt. Hot rolled asphalt was laid to replace the removed surfacing. For other commercial sites, the repair extent, material and work programme are agreed around the damage, vehicle use and access requirements.
From asphalt removal to the replacement surface
Road planing, also called asphalt milling, removes an agreed depth of existing surfacing. Sweeping and cleaning follow the removal. Where resurfacing is included, the specified tack or bond coat, asphalt layers, laying method and compaction are agreed for the intended use. Any weak foundation or drainage issue needs its own assessment.
Our family-run business can quote for the full preparation and surfacing package. We have our own equipment and insulated trucks for our materials. Tell us if the work needs to fit around opening hours or a night shift so we can discuss access, materials and the available working window.

Road-planing questions
Why use Colbond 50 after sweeping?
Sweeping removes loose material; the specified bond coat then helps the replacement asphalt adhere to the prepared layer. Colbond 50 is a polymer-modified bitumen-emulsion bond coat. It does not replace repairs to a weak base or an assessment of drainage.
Is road planing the same as laying recycled road planings?
Road planing removes existing asphalt. Road planings are the reclaimed material, which can be supplied and compacted for a separately specified road, track or yard. Tell us whether you need asphalt removed, recycled material installed, or preparation followed by new hot asphalt.
