A shared roadway near Fort William: preparation to finish
The shared roadway and driveway in our Fort William album had potholes and standing water before work. The project included grading, levelling and rolling, with MOT Type 1 used in low areas and potholes. Two coats of hot polymer latex bitumen and chippings were then machine applied, followed by the black Armourseal coating specified for that job.
A similar Lochaber enquiry starts with the road condition and the needs of its users. We assess repairs, drainage, access for the combi unit and the proposed aggregate finish. Surface dressing can follow an agreed preparation package; any additional coating and aftercare requirements are stated separately in the quotation.
Preparing your road for surface dressing
Hot tar & chip uses a bituminous binder and stone chippings, rolled into the prepared surface. We inspect the existing construction, drainage and damaged areas before recommending a specification. Potholes, weak edges and failed sections may need repairs first.
- Private and shared roads, farm lanes and estate access
- Larger driveways, entrances and suitable commercial grounds
- Preparation, patching and regulation where required
- Single- or two-coat treatments and aggregate options assessed for the site
Application depends on suitable weather and surface conditions. We agree the work programme, traffic arrangements and aftercare with you, including advice about initial speeds and loose chippings.
Tarmac repairs and pothole repairs before dressing
The shared roadway near Fort William in our gallery needed preparation and repairs before its surface-dressing finish. We also quote for separate pothole repairs, tarmac patching and damaged access areas across Lochaber. Photographs of standing water and failed sections help us assess the repair scope and underlying cause.
Tarmac and pothole repair enquiries in Fort William can be assessed on their own or as part of the preparation for surface dressing.

Surface dressing questions in Fort William
Is the black Armourseal finish included with every tar-and-chip job?
No. It is an additional specified finish on the project shown. Your quotation identifies the surface-dressing system and any separately agreed coating.
Can you prepare and regulate a damaged shared road?
Yes. We assess the road and can include the required repairs, grading, regulation and compaction before dressing. The treatment must suit the stability and use of the road.
