Moray / Morayshire · HOT TAR & CHIP

Morayshire – Castle Estate Road Repairs & Surface Dressing

A country castle-estate project in Morayshire covering several thousand square metres of existing road. The old tarmac had broken and damaged areas, potholes, cracks and rutting associated with trucks and agricultural traffic. UK Roadworks Group repaired the potholes before applying the surface-dressing treatment. The photograph shows bitumen spraying and stone spreading during application, rather than the completed estate road. For other Moray estates, the condition of the road beneath the new dressing remains an essential part of the assessment: repairs and any necessary reconstruction are considered before the final treatment. Our service includes machine-applied hot tar and chip and two-in-one combi-unit application, with equipment selected for the agreed work and access.

Preparation, materials and finish

  1. Damaged estate tarmac. The existing estate road included potholes, cracking and areas of rutting. The project covered several thousand square metres of estate road.
  2. Pothole repairs before dressing. Potholes were repaired before the surface-dressing application. For a new enquiry, we assess the depth and cause of failed sections and identify any further preparation needed.
  3. Bitumen and aggregate application. The road received machine-applied surface dressing after the repairs. The working photograph shows the binder-spraying and stone-spreading stages.
  4. Estates and commercial grounds. We welcome Morayshire enquiries for farms, estates, shops, pubs, clubs, restaurants and caravan parks. Describe service access, delivery vehicles and any areas that must remain in use so the programme can be planned.

Choosing a gravel-effect surface for your property

Hot tar and chip, also called surface dressing or bitumen-bonded aggregate, combines a bituminous binder with stone chippings. The aggregate colour gives the surface its appearance. We discuss the preferred finish alongside the existing base, levels, drainage and vehicles using your driveway or road.

Repairs, excavation, regulating or base reconstruction may be needed before the surface dressing itself. Tell us about soft areas, potholes, standing water and turning points. The work shown here is a project example; your quotation sets out the preparation and treatment agreed for your own site.

Preparation, spraying, chipping and rolling

We inspect the existing road or driveway for potholes, weak edges, low areas and drainage issues. Repairs and regulating are completed where required before the binder is sprayed. Selected chippings are applied to the fresh binder and rolled; a two-layer treatment repeats the binder and aggregate application to the agreed specification.

Our own combi units and surfacing equipment support the spraying, chipping and compaction process. Material choice, application rates and the work programme depend on the prepared base, traffic and conditions. We explain controlled reopening, initial loose chippings and the aftercare for your completed surface.
