Our Killin project

Killin · HOT TAR & CHIP
Killin – Private House Hot Tar & Chip with Washed Gravel
A private-house surface dressing project in Killin, Scotland, finished with local washed gravel for a natural stone appearance. UK Roadworks Group used a specialist two-in-one tar tanker and chipping combi unit to lay two layers of hot tar and chip. The bitumen-bonded aggregate finish extends through the entrance and towards the house, complementing the property’s rural setting. This is the premium gravel-style finish requested for the project, with two-coat application carried out using our dedicated surface-dressing equipment.
Preparation, materials and finish
- Local washed aggregate. Local washed gravel was selected for the natural aggregate finish at this private house.
- Specialist combi application. Our two-in-one tar tanker and chipping combi unit applied the binder and aggregate.
- Two-layer finish. Two layers of hot tar and chip created the completed bitumen-bonded aggregate surface.
Choosing a gravel-effect surface for your property
Hot tar and chip, also called surface dressing or bitumen-bonded aggregate, combines a bituminous binder with stone chippings. The aggregate colour gives the surface its appearance. We discuss the preferred finish alongside the existing base, levels, drainage and vehicles using your driveway or road.
Repairs, excavation, regulating or base reconstruction may be needed before the surface dressing itself. Tell us about soft areas, potholes, standing water and turning points. The work shown here is a project example; your quotation sets out the preparation and treatment agreed for your own site.
