OUR WORK IN DUMBARTON
Approximately 2,000 m² of farm lane and road resurfacing
A farm lane and road resurfacing project in Dumbarton, covering approximately 2,000 square metres. Hot tarmac was machine laid at 70 mm thick and power rolled. The photograph records work in progress, with the paver laying the new surface and a roller working along the lane.

The photograph was taken during the work and shows the paving and rolling equipment along the rural lane. The 70 mm thickness describes this specific project; the construction for another road is assessed against its base, use and agreed specification.
What this project involved
- Approximately 2,000 m². The resurfacing work covered approximately 2,000 square metres of farm lane and road.
- Machine-laid hot tarmac. Hot tarmac was machine laid at a thickness of 70 mm for this project.
- Power rolling. The newly laid tarmac was power rolled. The photograph shows paving and rolling during the work.
Machine-laid hot tarmac for long access roads
For a long farm approach, machine laying allows the work to be planned along the road in paving runs. Access for the paver, delivery vehicles and roller is considered before the programme is agreed. Narrow entrances, bends and limited turning areas should be included in the initial enquiry.
This Dumbarton project combined a substantial resurfacing area with a specified 70 mm tarmac thickness and power rolling. For your road, tell us the approximate length, width and any wider passing or turning areas so the scope can be measured clearly.
Farm roads, private lanes and agricultural access
A farm road needs to be considered as a working route, including vehicle movements at gates, buildings and junctions. We discuss tractors, trailers, delivery vehicles and other traffic using the lane, alongside the condition of the existing base.
Preparation can differ along a single route. A worn entrance, a soft section and a sound stretch of road may require different work before resurfacing. Marking these areas on a simple sketch helps us distinguish repairs from the main surfacing area in the quotation.
Groundworks, levels and road edges
The finished tarmac surface is only part of a road project. We assess existing levels, water run-off, edges and tie-ins before recommending the preparation. Where new kerbs or base reconstruction are needed, these are identified in the agreed scope.
Our separate Dumbarton private-road project included groundworks, edging kerbs, a hardcore base and two tarmac layers. It illustrates a different construction from the 70 mm farm-road job featured here; the specification is selected for the actual site.
Pothole repairs and local tarmac reinstatement
We also assess damaged access roads for pothole repairs, patching and reinstatement. Include photographs of recurring failures, broken edges and areas where water stands. Tell us if the lane has been trenched or repaired previously.
Repairs may form a separate package or part of preparation for wider resurfacing. Access needed for residents, livestock movements and deliveries should be discussed so the programme reflects how the road is used.

Dumbarton – Private Road Groundworks & Tarmac Surfacing
A private access road in Dumbarton, Scotland, completed with groundworks, edging kerbs, surface preparation and a hardcore base. Two machine-laid tarmac layers followed: a 60 mm-thick base course using 20 mm aggregate, then a 40 mm-thick surface course using 6 mm aggregate. The paired photographs show the prepared base before tarmac laying and the finished road between the kerbed edges.

Tarmac surfacing questions in Dumbarton
How large was the Dumbarton farm-road project?
Approximately 2,000 square metres were resurfaced with machine-laid hot tarmac at 70 mm thick, followed by power rolling.
Will my farm road also need 70 mm of tarmac?
The thickness for this project is not a standard specification for every road. We assess the existing construction, traffic and required scope before agreeing the layers for your site.
Can you include damaged sections before resurfacing?
Yes. Show the damaged areas separately in your enquiry so repairs, base work and the main surfacing can be assessed together.
